The Ancient Compass / Dekalog
The film series on the Ten Commandments of God is a glimpse into their background and incredible timeless relevance. We won’t list them by rote – we’ll let them challenge us and we’ll reflect together on what their full message is.
Before answering this challenge, which will unfold/evolve over ten short episodes, we will walk with Moses up the Mount Sinai. Having already led his people out of Egypt, Moses was neither given a life of ease nor rest on his laurels. The call came. ‘’ Come up to me on the mountain, and take your place there: and I will give you the stones on which I have put in writing the law and the orders, so that you may give the people knowledge of them.’’ (Ex. 24.12)
The promise and the fruits of the covenant that God has made with man do not come without exertion, even if sometimes everything seems to be against us and that the exertions are more than we can bear. But it is hardship that ‘extract’ the best out of us. And when we seem to be trapped in thoughts of what we can’t do, this is – sometimes very narrow – path and often an arduous climb towards the Truth, new hope, richer faith. The Ten Commandments succeed in leading us to the Truth; that is their liberating power.
We believe that the new series Decalogue, with its message and multifaceted story, will be a good inspiration for everyday life and also for other various pastoral activities, especially in work with young people and adults.
