Filming dark history

For Studio Siposh the new year started with a dark project. Or rather, its theme. We were filming scenes from Dachau concentration camp where a lot of priests were being held during WWII. The research of the horrible events happening there was draining as we learned more and more terrible details about the camp. So we worked with even bigger respect for history as we usually do.

When we collected enough data and visual images, we went hunting for locations. An abandoned chicken farm became an interior of a concentration camp barrack (before/after).

Still operational industrial buildings were transformed to an exterior of the camp. With addition of a lot of barbed wire, of course (before/after).

One of the most interesting set elements was a replica of infamous Dachau entry door. It looked scary real on camera but in reality it was installed in an underpass of a road.

Costumes for the prisoners were rented in Zagreb from Jadran film. For guard uniforms and weapons we cooperated with a history enthusiast and collector from Slovenia.

When filming days approached, temperatures were below zero degrees Celsius which surely helped actors to understand the suffering and braveness of prisoners they had to portray. Actors playing prisoners even had their heads shaved on set.

Two actors were faced with a special acting challenge, one was striped and poured with water in the snow and the other was dragged by a bicycle down the street.

The theme and filming conditions were rough, but we managed to have some good time on set as well. We even had a dog to pet!
